Lighthouse Reef Atoll

When cruising along the deep cobalt blue waters of the Caribbean en route to the Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Great Blue Hole, a remarkable occurence takes place.  The deep blue water of the beautiful Caribbean Sea transforms to shallow crystal-clear azure blue.  The spectacular Lighthouse Reef Atoll is one of the three atolls in Belize and home to some of Belize's finest diving.  Between the Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye, taking a trip to this nook of the world offers colorful memories for life.

Blue Hole

Back in 1972, Jacques Cousteau created the tried and true route to the 400 ft. deep and quarter mile wide Great Blue Hole.  The first fixation that stands out of this wondrous formation is the stark difference in water color.  An almost perfect circle of mysterious deep blue invites you to explore the stalactites and stalagmites plus an abundance of ocean creatures.  Frequently nurse sharks, Caribbean reef sharks and various rays are seen in accompaniment with giant grouper and other tropical fish.  This is a must-see that allows endless bragging rights!

Booby Bird Sanctuary

Take a short hike on the tropical trails upon docking at Half Moon Caye and you will stumble upon a tall platform.  Climb the ladder to completely change your perspective of the tropical island to a real birds-eye view.  This viewing platform is built level with the treetops which the Red-Footed Boobies and Frigate Birds have made their home.  The entire experience is like stepping into surreal Galapagos Islands.  Watch your step, the trails on the island are crawling with huge hermit crabs!
